Jenn & Ben: Tulane University and Audubon Park Engagement Session

Jenn and Ben got married this weekend! Here are some of my favorites from their engagement session in November!

Beth & Ben: Audubon Engagement Session

Beth and Ben wanted to take their engagement pictures where they were engaged – Audubon Park! We walked down to the spot in a gazebo near a fountain for a little reenactment.:)

Beth and Ben, I’m so looking forward to your wedding in June!

Marie & Chris: Bourbon Orleans Wedding (Part 2)

This is the continuing story of Marie and Chris’ wedding celebration! First, you have to check out part one HERE. After that, continue on!

The dramatic entrance into the ballroom!

Now, before you continue on, you  must know about a few Dutch wedding traditions that were incorporated into the reception! Upon chiming of the glasses, the couple is to stand on their chairs and kiss. When the guests begin stomping, the couple is to kiss beneath the table.

Here’s another tradition for you: When the groom leaves the room, all the men line up to kiss the bride before he returns! And of course the ladies are waiting for their chance at the groom when the bride steps out as well!

Then there was the traditional Danish wedding waltz. This definitely isn’t your normal first dance! The guests all gather in a circle around the couple, and begin closing in closer and closer as the song plays. Then things go a little crazy…

The ladies begin to pull at the bride’s veil – ripping it to shreds for good luck!

As for the groom, he’s hoisted into the air, shoes yanked off, and the toes of his socks are cut off!

I love Kaylynn’s perspective on this one!

Bits of the grooms socks were distributed among the guests!

After that, things were pretty normal again – everyone having a great time!

Marie and Chris – Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wedding celebration! You were both wonderful to work with!

Marie & Chris: Bourbon Orleans Wedding (Part 1)

The first things I remember thinking when meeting Marie and Chris was “She’s tall!” and “That accent is amazing!”

More than just her height or her accent, Marie is a wonderful lady:  jovial, welcoming, and kind. Chris is quite lucky to have found her – all the way across the ocean.

Marie and Chris’ story is quite unique. This was the very first wedding I’ve photographed for a couple who was actually already married! Marie was working at a local Irish Pub in Copenhagen, when she met Chris, who was there doing his MBA exchange. Love at first sight wasn’t the case for these two. Marie thought Chris was a brash Texan – and being feisty herself, they continually found themselves in heated debates. Through it all, Marie found that Chris was actually a very sweet and decent man. One worth completely changing her life for.

The Dallas/Denmark long distance relationship continued and after much hint dropping, Marie proposed to Chris. They got married in April of 2010 in a small civil ceremony, and then began the long and complicated visa procedures to actually live together in the US. The sad part is that they wanted their family and friends to be a part of their wedding day. So they decided to do a full wedding celebration in New Orleans last October at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel!

Marie beautifully wrote, “This wedding might not be our first, but it is the most important because it represents pulling through two years of long-distance relationship to finally be joined with our families to start our new life over here. If anything, it is a celebration of what we’ve been through together, and a transition connecting my old life & family in Copenhagen with my new life with Chris’ family in NO/Dallas – and we hope that both sides will mix and mingle for many years to come.”

So here’s part one of their wedding celebration!  Thanks to Kaylynn Marie for helping me out on this day!

Marie’s dress was amazing! Layers of fine tulle, and lots of gorgeous detail!

Then there was the transformation. From this…

…to this!

Everyone was ready, leaving just a few minutes for Marie to eat a little something before portraits. This picture cracks me up – nothing quite like trying to eat Subway in your wedding dress!

Continue on to part two HERE!

Lesley & Byron: New Orleans Engagement Session

When it comes to taking pictures, I’m not a big risk taker. I try to avoid breaking the law, trespassing where not prohibited, or doing anything to get me or my clients in trouble. I had a pretty good record. That is, until I was detained by a national park ranger for a federal offense. Whoops.

Lesley had suggested taking some of their engagement pictures out at the Barataria Preserve in Jean Lafitte National Park. When I arrived I scoped out the location, and spoke with a park ranger to be sure we were in the best place for our short amount of time in the park.

The gate to the parking lot closed at 5, so we hurried out to be sure we didn’t get locked in!

And it was then that we were spotted. Apparently, taking pictures in a national park requires a permit. Who knew?! Not me, and not the first ranger I spoke with! After a thorough interrogation and having all of my information taken down, I was let off the hook. We skedaddled out of there after that, and wrapped up the rest of our time down in the warehouse district.

Lesley and Byron are getting married in May, and have their reception planned for City Park’s new Arbor Room! I can’t wait!
